»German
Subtitles« is a montage of material from TV-news and other sources (feature
films, documentaries and radio broadcasts). It was conceived as an audioguide
for an "art in public space"-project in Berlin and should have been
installed in a Tourist-Infophone at the Brandenburger Tor. Rejected as too
"political" by the curators this idea was never realized.
To us, all the issues addressed (the fall of the Berlin wall and its socio-political
con¬¬sequences, the increasing popularity of the New Right) were too
important
to be just dropped. So the audiotape "translated" into a videotape.
